Best’s Great Western Bin No 1 Shiraz 2011

Garnet, ruby, and a tinge of tawny on the rim. Blackcurrant, eucalypt and mint. Complete with a whiff of sandalwood. Evolved, elegant fruit delivered by soft tannins with a gentle grip on the finish. Freshness, finesse and harmony. Medium-bodied.  The winner of the 2012 Jimmy Watson Trophy – Australia’s most prestigious wine prize – is a classy Shiraz. If you expect a full-bodied Shiraz like Penfolds Grange, you will be disappointed. However, if you are searching for something subtle and refined – a Syrah – you will be amply rewarded.

“To everyone’s surprise, winner of Australia’s big wine prize – Jimmy Watson Trophy – for a Shiraz from cold, wet 2011 vintage”
