I tasted this, and then ordered the entire bottle, last Wednesday at dinner in Duddell’s in Central in Hong Kong. It is one of the best Provencal rosés I’ve had. Make that one of the best rosés ever! Elegant fruit, pin-point harmony, and finesse. Over the weekend, I Googled “Triennes” and discovered that the founders are Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac, Aubert de Villaine of Domaine Romanee-Conti, and their Parisian friend Michel Macaux. In 1989, the trio went in search of new vineyards and discovered Domaine du Logis de Nans in the Var, just 50 km south-east of Aix en Provence. The friends renamed the estate Triennes, a reference to Triennia, the ancient Roman wine festival dedicated to Bacchus and held every three years. Appropriately, “tri” also refers to the fact there are three partners. Light pink, the nose is of wild strawberries. The freshness is round and suave rather than edgy and acidic. Predominantly Cinsault, the rest of the blend is Grenache, Syrah and Merlot. Delicious on its own and unforgettable with the outstanding Crispy Roast Chicken with Fermented Red Beaucurd Sauce.
