Sandeman Vau Vintage Port 1997 
The finest wine produced at Quinta do Vau forms the backbone of Sandeman Vau Vintage Port 1997, supplemented by wines made by Sandeman from grapes supplied from their top contract growers. This was from a 375 ml half-bottle. I tasted it as soon as it was opened and tracked the wine every 15 minutes to discover it at its ideal – smoothness of tannins and brightness of fruit – between 60 and 90 minutes. Red fruits and plums. Medium-plus sweetness, elegant tannins and freshness. Delicious on its own and outstanding with Thai and Sichuan cuisine.
