Eric Boissenot • World’s Most Important Wine Consultant

Eric Boissenot and CH’NG Poh Tiong at Chateau Beychevelle on 10 May 2022

Two weeks ago, I saw Eric Boissenot – the world’s most important wine consultant – twice in three days.

I have known his father, the late, great Jacques Boissenot (1938 – 2014), right-hand man to Bordeaux’s first modern-day wine consultant Professor Emile Peynaud (1912 – 2004), his mother Anna-Marie, Eric and his wife Christine, for 20 years.

Our recent first catch-up was dinner at Chateau Beychevelle hosted by the Saint-Julien estate’s GM & Chief Winemaker Philippe Blanc on 10 May 2022.

Two days later, it was to taste Eric’s delicious Chateau les Vimieres le Tronquera 2021 – a pure 100% Merlot Margaux – and lunch with Anna-Marie, Christine and him. Being in the Boissenot home again in Lamarque, precious memories of other visits came flooding back.

Anna-Marie’s salad was so refreshing I had two helpings, and the egg-battered veal absolutely yummy. So too Chateau les Vimieres le Tronquera 2010.
