37th Medoc Marathon • Chateau Mauvesin Barton

The 37th Edition of the Médoc Marathon was run on Saturday 2 September 2023.

Created in 1985, it is held every year in September. The marathon did not take place in 2020 and 2021 because of Covid.

The Médoc Marathon goes through the vineyards of the Left Bank of Bordeaux.

That alone makes the annual event rather special.

Even more unique is the fact there are pit stops at chateaux along the route where participants enjoy a tipple. Most are known to run even faster after that. The moving power of Bordeaux wine is a well-known fact.

This year’s 37th Edition of Médoc Marathon, Chateau Mauvesin was one such destination. The Moulis property also fielded a team of runners.

Mauvesin is the property of the family of Lilian Barton Sartorius who lives on the estate with her husband Michel Sartorius.

Their children, daughter and Mauvesin winemaker Melanie and son Damien visit regularly as they used to live there too. So too horses, cats, dogs, chickens, irreplaceable memories, and lots of good wine!

Great Bordeaux Tour III

Last 7 November 2022, our Great Bordeaux Tour III visited Mauvesin. Lilian and Michel were the perfect lunch hosts that bright sunny day in early autumn. The skies were blue beyond belief. So to the delicious food. And the exceptional wines.
