Whisky of the Week • Bowmore 15 Years

Whisky is irresistible.

It is almost always my last drink of the day. With music, a book, or staring into space.

Bowmore is one such wonderful purpose.

The Islay distillery has an outlook that trills and resonates with every fibre of my soul.

“It’s what we choose to do with our time that defines us”.

Has there been a greater truth that was spoken?

Bowmore is many things to many people.

Bowmore is a distillery, name of a town, capital of Islay, bottle of delicious discovery.

Bowmore 15 Years is aged 12 years in Bourbon casks and the remaining 3 years in barrels that once held Oloroso Sherry. The recipe – and tumultous chemistry – is truly inspired.

Mid-Puerh tea in complexion. The fragrance is immediate. Gently peaty, a raisiny, cinnamon, toffee, sherry follow-up that returns – at the end – to a smouldering, camp-fire smokiness that reminds of the terrior of Bordeaux First Growth Chateau Haut-Brion. Smooth and velvety. Deep Purple “Smoke on the Water” is a great accompaniment.
