Eric Li (above) is back at Waku Ghin as their Chef Sommelier.
The award-winning restaurant of Tetsuya Wakuda re-opened on 1 March 2021 in a new location within Marina Bay Sands. It is now considerably larger than its former space.
Waku Ghin’s new location is next to Imperial Treasure.
I first met Eric Li in 2009.
I was engaged by SOPEXA to deliver a talk on French wine in Beijing. And was put up at the Grand Hyatt.
That evening, I went down to their Basement 1 Cantonese restaurant for dinner.
When I asked for the wine list, Eric Li came over and informed he was in the class that afternoon.
We became friends and stayed in touch.
The following year, in 2010, Eric Li came to Singapore for the first time to work as a sommelier in the Raffles Hotel. He had been hired by their Director of Wine Stephane Soret.
Three years later, Li returned to China as Chef Sommelier of Grand Hyatt Shanghai Jing Mao. He came back to Singapore and after stints at Waku Ghin and the Raffles, is now back at the former restaurant.
