Christian Moueix, proprietor of this great Pomerol, told me many years ago that Trotanoy is the only wine he could mistake in a blind tasting for Petrus. Incidentally, he was also in charge of that estate for his elder brother Jean-Francois Moueix at the time. Both wines were made by Jean-Claude Berrouet from 1964 to when he retired in 2008. Trotanoy 1990 has been a slow, late devoloper, the main reason being because it is very fresh and only medium-pluish in body. Many people erroneously think wines cannot age when it is lighter and that only concentrated ones do. This is as ridiculous as saying that lean, skinny people cannot live longer than larger ones. Decant 90 minutes to 2 hours. Mint, sandalwood, aged tobacco, the smells of autumn, and gentle leather. Elegant, fine, fresh and long finish. Will continue to evolve and improve.
