Margaux de Brane is the third wine of Second Growth Chateau Brane-Cantenac.
The 2019 vintage is driven by fruit and freshness wrapped in tannins derived entirely from the grape, namely the skin and pips. No oak is involved in the winemaking. Bordeaux unplugged!
Fresh red/blue fruit delivered by ripe, smooth, silky tannins. Good persistence of fruit and delicious freshness. Medium-plus-ish bodied. Very engaging on its own and with pork, chicken and pink/red meat dishes.
Brane-Cantenac was one of 15 Second Growths so rated in the famed 1855 Médoc Classification.
The name of the estate originates from the 19th Century.
In 1833, the Margaux property in the village of Cantenac was purchased by Baron Hector de Brane (owner – at that time – also of Chateau Brane-Mouton, later to become Mouton-Rothschild).
Today, Chateau Brane-Cantenac is owned by Henri Lurton, a trained winemaker.
