Anyone who thinks that 1997 Bordeaux is not capable of ageing has obviously never tasted this Cru Bourgeois. Acquired by AXA Millesimes in 1987, this Pauillac property – whose neighbours include Mouton, Pontet Canet and Grand Puy Lacoste – produces wine of a cru classé quality. The 17 ha vineyard is planted to 54% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot. Scented, including of mint, cassis, capsicums, and a whiff of sandalwood. The medium-plus-ish fruit is persistent even though it is not very ripe. Elegant, refined, and very fresh. Thoroughly enjoyable now and will continue to evolve and improve into 2030. Decanted 45 minutes.
