Champagne Andre Robert Les Jardins du Mesnil Grand Cru Brut
A grower champagne of a very high order. Bright light gold. Long line of pure, pristine fruit. Minerally, citrussy, zesty, Granny Smith, nutmegs, complete with a hint of churned butter and smokiness. Very intense. Super fresh. And long. Twenty percent of the wine was vinified in barriques and left on lees for 10 months. Part of the reason this Blanc de Blancs has so much energy is because there was no malolactic fermentation. Disgorged in February 2019 after 5 years in bottle. The dosage, at 5 g/l, makes this an Extra Brut. Fourth-generation Bertrand Robert took over the estate from his father Andre in 1961. In 1990, his wife Colette joined him, followed by their daughter Claire in 2013. The 14 hectares of vineyards are mostly Grand and Premier Crus.
Maximin Grunhaus
Believed once to be the site of a Roman villa, Weingut Maximin Grunhaus is in the Mosel
“The ABTSBERG is without question our estate’s most renowned vineyard site, famous for producing wines of almost peerless longevity”

The estate is believed to have been a villa in Roman times. As amphoras and Roman pruning knives have been found, it is also believed winegrowing has had an equal history. Fragrant and fruity on the nose and palate. Pineapples, lemons, with a minerality coursing through all that brisk, lively fruit. The 55 g/l sweetness is like a dance. Exceptional. “The ABTSBERG is without question our estate’s most renowned vineyard site, famous for producing wines of almost peerless longevity. Its bedrock is blue Devonian slate, forming a rounded summit that opens up from southeast to southwest. The estate’s finest parcels are located at the heart of that cone, which reaches gradients of up to 75%”.

Sottimano Barbera d’Alba Pairolero 2015
Essentially a domaine, Rino Sottimano is joined in the family-owned winery by wife Anna, son Andrea, and daughters Elena and Claudia. The 18 hectares of vineyards also produce a Dolcetto, Langhe Nebbiolo and Barbaresco. Floral, violets, cherry and deep, dark blue fruit. Lively ripe tannins. Medium-plus bodied. Very fresh and harmonious. Rino Sottimano avoids herbicides and pesticides, ferments with indigenous yeast, and bottles his wines unfiltered. “The only concentration we have is the thinning of the bunches in the vineyard”.
