T is for Taittinger

WELCOME TO EDITION 755 of GRAPEVINE

Virginie Taittinger had worked 21 years at Champagne Taittinger with her father Claude. She launched her own brand Virginie T in 2013.

Virginie Taittinger hosted a dinner in Singapore on Saturday 30 November 2019. And charmed everyone with her direct plain talk, humour, and champagnes (more about them this coming Wednesday).

The French lady had worked under her father Claude Taittinger from 1986 to 2007 while also in charge of marketing, communication and general management at Bordeaux wine merchant Samazeuih.

‘I have champagne coursing through my veins,’ Taittinger quipped before adding, ‘on my mother’s family side, they founded Piper-Heidsieck.’

Champagne Taittinger belongs to another branch of the family today which is why her own champagne is called Virginie T.

Launched in 2013, annual production is about 35,000 bottles compared with Taittinger’s seven million.

The brand uses their www.champagnevirginiet.com website to direct sell but also has distributors. Singapore is their most important Asian market.

Virginie T also works on bespoke projects.

‘Laduree will be launching a new cuvée we created to pair with their famous macarons. The champagne will be sold at Laduree shops,’ informed Virginie who, upon her return to France, was going straight to a meeting with Laduree at Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Wishing you A Very Good Week Ahead.
