Pernod Ricard Luxury Business Development Executive Marie Deloffre hosted dinner last night for Champagne aficionado friends. Given the legal restrictions on gatherings, it was a party of five at VUE, the restaurant on the top floor of 18-storey OUE Bayfront in Singapore’s Central Business District. All five diners are “alumni” of Champagne Perrier-Jouet La Maison Belle Epoque – which has art pieces by Rodin and Toulouse-Lautrec – the magnificent guest house on the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay. Belle Epoque 2012 is incredibly youthful. There was a little burst of white flowers, citrus, minerality and a hint of honey (when the wine was not too cold). Full of vitality, stamina and energy, the youngster is remarkably steely. Comprising about half and half Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, there is a sprinkle of Pinot Meunier from the village of Dizy.
