Falkenstein Sudtirol Riesling 2016

Italian wine – like the cuisine – emphasizes freshness. The whites make for salivating aperitifs and with many dishes, particularly deep-fried foods such as fritto misto which reminds of Japanese tempura (equally compelling pairing). The South Tyrol is an autonomous province in northernmost Italy in the autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige. A majority of the population speaks German and an Austro-Hungarian dialect. Falkenstein Riesling has lively appley fruit with a bite of lemon zest on the finish. Medium-bodied, the long bottle is reassuringly sealed by screwcap. Thoroughly enjoyable on its own, it was outstanding with the homemade rye tortellini with minced fish.
