ManzWine vineyard in the Douro Valley
A Brazilian of Hungarian origin, Andre Manz first visited Portugal in the 1980s as a fitness instructor.
In 2004, together with his family, Manz moved to the little village of Cheleiros, 45 km north-west of Lisbon because he had fallen in love with the place and its people. He also discovered and revived a small plot of a forgotten vineyard. From that move came an unexpected grape odyssey.
Andre Manz, the Brazilian immigrant, is today producing some of Portugal’s most compelling, exciting wines.
“I do not want to produce a lot of wine, what I want is to produce good wine.”
An admirer and defender of Portuguese varietals, twenty years after that fateful move to Cheleiros, Andre Manz now has vineyards in the Douro, outside Lisbon, and the Peninsula of Setubal.
