Bernadotte is a Cru Bourgeois located in Saint-Sauveur, near Pauillac. Previously owned by the Louis Roederer Group (proprietor also of Chateau Pichon Comtesse), it was sold in 2012 to Antares Cheng, Founder/Chairman/Managing Director of Hong Kong-based King Power Group. The vintages 2015 and 2016 are two of the finest of the last decade. A blend of 65% cabernet sauvignon, 22% merlot and 13% petit verdot, the balance is very well struck between vibrant blackberry fruit; ripe, long, crisp tannins, and freshness running parallel with the fruit from beginning to end. There is an attractive whiff of eucalyptus on the nose. Medium-plus-ish bodied. This Haut-Medoc was aged 1/3 in new, 1/3 in one-year old, and the remaining third in 2-year old barrels. Hubert de Bouard of Chateau Angelus is consultant. Decant 30 minutes. Enjoy now to 2030.
