The Cattier family has been cultivating their vines in Chigny les Roses for nearly 400 years since 1625. The Premier Cru village is in the Montagne de Reims, about 1.5 km from the family home in Rilly la Montagne. The clos – it had historically been a walled vineyard – is 2.2 hectares. The blend is 60% pinot noir and 40% chardonnay. Three vintages go into this Brut. I don’t know which batch this particular bottle is but the wine shows some wonderful evolution. So too the colour which has a light bronze edge to the pink. Delicious Maraschino cherry fruit with a liquorice aspect. Don’t serve this too cold. And not in a skinny flute either.
