Champagne Delamotte Blanc de Blancs 2008

This was a show stealer at dinner on Wednesday 28 April. The bearer of this gift of a wine was good friend Albert Chuang. Remarkably, after 13 years, the bright straw complexion still has a tinge of green. On the nose, floral including geranium, brioche, and ripe fruit with a delicate smoky aspect. Finesse, poise, and attitude. Fruit into freshness into pleasure a seamless journey. Delamotte and Salon share the same offices in Le Mesnil sur Oger. Founded by Francois Delamotte in 1760, it predates Salon by nearly 150 years as the first vintage produced for Eugene-Aime Salon was 1905. Today, both houses are owned by the Laurent-Perrier Group. The two champagnes are the responsibility of Didier Depond who travels the world (before Covid anyway) to release their bubbles. The wines of Delamotte and Salon (and that of Champagne Laurent-Perrier) are made by the very talented Michel Fauconnet.
