Domaine Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes 2011

You can buy the wines of Domaine Hubert Lignier with the guarantee that you will be rewarded with fruit. Father and son Hubert and Laurent make “fresh, fine, elegant wines” and, since the 1990s, no weed killer or insecticides are used in the vineyard. The Ligniers admit that ageing in barrels of 20 to 22 months is “rather long”. However, only 20 to 30% is new oak. The wines are bottled without fining in order to “keep the wine’s freshness and its ageing potential”. The domaine is based in Morey-Saint-Dennis but this single vineyard Premier Cru is in neighbouring Gevrey. Bright ruby. Great purity of intense raspberry fruit. The tannins are ripe, rich, and crisp on the finish. Wonderful freshness. Full-bodied, harmonious, and supremely elegant. Approachable now and will continue to evolve and become more complex to 2035.
