Italian & Cantonese in Shanghai

BELLA NAPOLI, established in 2002, serves up one of the best pizzas in Shanghai.

Last month, I went to their Nanhui Road branch in Jing’an. There’s another in Changle Road.

I had the Pizza by Guido (the name of the proprietor). This yummy creation, a Bella Napoli signature, includes anchovies and Parmesan cheese on top of mozzarella.

The wine list has a decent roundup of regional Italian favourites. For the modest size of the list, it’s a very good effort.

I had wished the Lugana and Greco di Tufo were available by the glass. Sadly, they were not.

As it was lunch and being solo, I resisted the temptation of a full bottle and had the passable Pinot Grigio. The Bianco della casa was disappointing. The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo made up for that.

The service at Bella Napoli was excellent.

Next time, I will resist temptation and simply order a bottle of the Lugana or Greco di Tufo.

IMPERIAL TREASURE is my go-to place for Cantonese dim sum when in Shanghai.

Situated on level 4 of Yi Feng Galleria at 99 East Beijing Road, Shanghai, this is Imperial Treasure’s first outlet outside Singapore. The group is also present in Seoul, London, and Paris. Tokyo is on the horizon.

Very popular with Shanghai residents, reservations are highly recommended.

Imperial Treasure serves the best spring roll on planet earth. Which happens to be entirely vegetarian. The Chiu Chow dumpling is just as crazy. The service is equally outstanding.

It was great to see their manager, Alan, again after three long years.

Congratulations on the restaurant keeping its Michelin 2 stars.
