The magnums will be the cuvée prestige Champagne Deutz Amour de Deutz 2006, a big, creamy pure Chardonnay from a hot year. They are the only magnums in Singapore.

Also specially flown in from France are magnums of Mas de Daumas Gassac 2004. According to The Wine Society of London, this is one of the best vintages of the Languedoc.

“The vintage after the floods of 2002 and the fires of 2003, 2004 heralds a return to a more classic style in a very fine vintage with outstanding successes in all areas. No two vintages are quite alike and 2004, coming after the excesses of 2003, has a character all of its own. The wines have great charm, echoing the best of 2000. Yet the structure and density of the 2004s have more in common with the rich 2001 vintage and, in the south, even bring to mind the ripeness and majesty of the 1990.

Mas de Daumas Gassac, Vin de Pays de l’Herault. A lovely vintage for Daumas Gassac: reserved, fine and rewarding.”

We are in for a treat because apart from sending the magnums directly from the Mas in the Languedoc Basile Guibert, proprietor of the estate some have called “The Lafite of Languedoc” will grace the dinner
on 24 July 2019.
