Congratulations Codorniu!!

The first bottles of Spanish cava was created in Codorniu in 1872 in Sant Sadurni d’Anoia outside Barcelona

It is appropriate for the company that produced the first bottles of cava back in 1872, that its current Chief Winemaker should be named Best Sparkling Winemaker Bacchus Awards 2021.

Bruno Colomer had joined Codorniu in 2008.

Colomer had come from Heretat Mas Tinell where he was also Chief Winemaker for their cava since 2006. Prior to that,  he held the same position for 10 years at Mont Ferrant which is also owned by Raventos Codorniu, the oldest winegrowing business in Spain since 1551.

Bruno Colomer was born in Sant Cugat del Valles, a town north of Barcelona. The Catalan has an Agricultural Engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and was also trained in France where he received a Diplome National de Oenologie from the University of Burgundy.

The Best Sparkling Winemaker Bacchus Awards 2021 is of particular significance to Colomer and Codorniu as it is organised by the Spanish Union of Tasters and attracted more than 1,500 wines from around the world. The jury came from equally far and wide and included Masters of Wine, journalists and sommeliers, as well as both Spanish and international winemakers.
