LVMH, the world’s leading luxury group, and the Frere Family of Belgium – proprietors of CHATEAU CHEVAL BLANC– have appointed Pierre Lurton chairman of the management board of the Saint-Emilion estate.
At the same time, Pierre Lurton is handing over the general management of Cheval Blanc to Pierre-Olivier Clouet, whom he himself recruited 20 years ago.

Lurton was already at the estate when France’s richest man and Belgium’s wealthiest family jointly acquired Cheval Blanc in 1998. In fact, Pierre Lurton had joined the estate in 1990 as technical director or winemaker.
(The Lurtons, several branches of the same family, are part of the established wine aristocracy of Bordeaux).

Pierre-Olivier Clouet began at Cheval Blanc as an intern in 2004. In 2008, he was promoted to technical director.
In recent years, Clouet has spearheaded key technical projects at Cheval Blanc, including the construction of the cellar by Christian de Portzamparc and the transition of the vineyard to agroecology.
The twin promotions build on the success of Cheval Blanc as a wine and vineyard as the two men responsible for its renaissance remain firmly in place.
