What’s Next?

WELCOME TO EDITION 766 of GRAPEVINE

Have you heard any politician voice a need to convene an international conference on Covid 19. How to better cope against it. And future epidemics?

Some medical teams have indeed been to Wuhan and China to learn about the disease.

But we have not heard a whimper from politicians.

When stock markets and the price of oil plummet, they get very agitated. And react immediately. Diseases can wait.

Politicians are uncomfortable with doctors and medical specialists because they have to listen to them. Politicians are foreign to being told. They like, instead, to order others around.

Politicians prefer to hobble with business people. They live off each other.

Their favourite gathering is in Davos.

Founded in 1971, the World Economic Forum is like the Academy Awards for the rich and powerful. A membership-based organization, membership is confined to the world’s largest corporations.

In their own words, the World Economic Forum is “committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas”.

Mention of health is missing. Material wealth is the goal.

Wishing you A Good Week Ahead.
