Stopping in Lunel yesterday for lunch, the restaurant had a dry and sweet muscat by the glass. The latter is AOC Lunel but I opted for a non-vintage Muscat Sec instead. Domaine le Clos de Bellevue is situated in Lunel, which is about 20 kilometres east of Montpellier and 30 km south-west of Nimes. Although not AOC Lunel, the dry muscat is also made from muscat a petits grains. It is elegantly aromatic and fruity, finishing completely dry, crisp, and very fresh. Medium-bodied, it was delicious both as a aperitif and with seafood. (Incidentally, Muscat de Lunel AOC must have at least 110 grams per litre of residual sugar).
