Champagne Michel Lenique Brut Blanc de Blancs

Founded in 1768 by Alexandre Lenique (whose father was a grower) this small family producer is situated in Pierry just outside Epernay. In 1960, the founder’s descendant Michel added his Christian name to the brand. I had bought this directly from his daughter Corinne when visiting Pierry two years ago. Opening this two weeks ago, the bottle age has given the wine delicious evolution Pineappley/appley/pear fruit with a dash of honey and a hint of nuttiness. Very fresh and capable of further ageing – and evolution – for another three, perhaps, five years. The wine spent three years on lees, more than the minimum 15-month requirement.
