Chateau de Valois Pomerol 2016

Lying near the border with St-Emilion, this Pomerol estate has been owned by the Leydet Family since 1862. Conversion to organic viticulture of the 8.5 ha vineyard began in 2012 and was certified with the 2015 vintage. Planted to 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, the soil is comprised of sand, fine gravel, and iron. The wine started opening up – nose and palate – 90 minutes after decanting. Ripe, rich blueberries and cherries of impressive intensity and persistence. The tannins are equally rich, ripe, and succulent. Expertly balanced and remarkably fresh, thanks no doubt to the very high 28% Cabernet Franc in 2016, one of the best vintages in Bordeaux – both Right and Left Bank – of the last 30 years.
