Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is the latest European leader to jump start the country’s tourism devastated by the coronavirus pandemic.

Mitsotakis has set 15 June 2020 as the official start of the calendar. The flag-off is expected to bring in motoring tourists from neighbouring countries.

International flights into the country are scheduled from 1 July 2020, including to popular Greek islands.

Holidaymakers from the UK and other countries will not be quarantined. Instead, they will undergo coronavirus tests.

‘Sample tests will be conducted on our visitors, and our general health protocols will be adhered to, without them … overshadowing our bright sun or the natural beauties of Greece,’ announced Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The United Kingdom is Greece’s most important market.

Whether Greece can truly kick-start its tourism will depend on Britons willing to subject themselves to a 14-day quarantine upon their return from travels abroad.
