Chateau Rieussec 2001

Classified as a First Growth in the 1855 Classification of Sauternes & Barsac, Chateau Rieussec is part of the stable of estates belonging to Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, proprietors also of Chateau Duhart-Milon, L’Evangile and, of course, Chateau Lafite Rothschild. Rieussec was acquired by DBR in 1984. The 93 hectares of vines are planted to 90%  Semillon, 7% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle. Bright gold. On the nose and palate, orange marmalade, Alphonso mango, apricot, star anise and liquorice. Richness and intensity battle it out in the glass alongside the incredible freshness, a hallmark of the vintage. Wine Spectator magazine named Chateau Rieussec 2001 Wine of the Year 2004.
