Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay 2018

The first vintage was 2005. Bin 311 emphasizes cool-climate fruit including some that was originally earmarked for Penfolds’ top white, Yattarna (first vintage 1995). Bin 311 is also a multi-regional blend with fruit from Adelaide Hills, Tumbarumba, and Tasmania. Barrel fermented, the ageing is in seasoned oak. Bright green straw. Struck match, aka flinty, lemon/lime zesty fruit, a mineral aspect, and a dash of vanilla. If you serve it cool rather than cold (or wait for the wine to warm up), a light buttery texture which will become more pronounced 3, 5 years down the road. Served blind to a friend who thought it a Premier Cru Meursault. I wouldn’t go so far but would had also landed in Burgundy. Sealed with a screwcap. If you live in Singapore, currently on promotion at NTUC Finest for S$58 until 9 June 2021 (normal price being S$68). I declare my interest that I am wine consultant to NTUC FairPrice and Finest.
