Montecillo Crianza 2016 

A delicate floral aspect. Hint of raspberry and  light cherry fruit. Crisp tannins. Fresh, balanced and medium-bodied. A blend of 85% tempranillo and 15% granacha. Aged 18 months in American oak barrels that are 2-year old, and 6 months in bottle. Only vines that are a minimum 15 years are used to produce crianza. Montecillo produces 3.5 million bottles annually from 700 hectares which they rent but is in charge of the viticulture.

Montecillo Reserva 2012 

Riper red/blue fruit with a hint of tobacco. The tannins are also riper. Balanced and medium-plus-ish bodied. A blend of 90% tempranillo, 7% old granacha and 3% mazuelo. Aged in 60% French and 40% American oak for 24 months and another 24 months in bottle. Fifty-five percent of the wood is new. The vines are 25 years.

Montecillo Gran Reserva 2010

Tobacco and leather on the nose. Greater complexity and more evolved fruit. About full-bodied. The blend is 95% tempranillo and 5% graciano. The vines are more than 30 years. Reserva is aged 28 to 30 months in barrel and at least 4 years in bottle. Only French oak is used but new oak varies just between 5 and 10%. (No Reserva was produced in 2013 and 2014).
