Singapore Finance Minister Lawrence Wong is in Venice today Friday 9 to Sunday 11 July 2021 to take part in meetings of the Group of 20.
Other countries in the G20 include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Japan, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The talks include international taxation, global minimum corporate tax, and the global economy.
Venice was also be hosting the International Conference on Climate Change.
Participants will deliberate policies to transition towards a low-carbon, greener economy.
Most Singaporeans – while not disinterested in, or unaware of, the significance of the talks – will however focus on something more “mundane”.
Will Finance Minister Lawrence Wong and his delegation serve the 14-day quarantine when they return to Singapore?
This is what all Singaporeans and residents have to undergo when ourselves come back from all the countries of the G20, including Italy.
Will Lawrence Wong, co-Chair of Singapore’s Covid 19 Task Force, subject himself to the same regulation he has imposed on us?
