BENRIACH THE SMOKY TWELVE

In a line of five impressive expressions of BenRiach last night, The Smoky Twelve was wafting famously back and forth in Famous Treasure, the Chinese restaurant on Level 2 of Capitol Piazza. With its rich but controlled smokiness, The Smoky Twelve – already outstanding on its own – stood head and shoulders with the Deep-Fried Kuhlbarra Barramundi Fillet with Chinchalok Sauce. Back and forth, whisky and fish tussled. It was unrelenting. Both emerged Champions! Master Blender Rachel Barrie crafted this Speyside original by maturing it in three different casks that had held bourbon, sherry and Marsala. The Keeper of the Quaich worked her magic. And cast a spell on whisky aficionados. No colour is added, nor does The Smoky Twelve undergo cold filtration. Bottled at 46% ABV, the fruit, structure, texture, smoke and gentle sweetness is seamless from entry to spirited finish. Smokin!

P.S. No music is allowed in restaurants because of Covid. There was, therefore, just one thing missing when The Smoky Twelve was served last night. The Speyside Single Malt should had been opened, poured, and savoured to Deep Purple’s pulsating Smoke on the Water.
