Tiansai Selection Marselan 2015
Ripe, lively cherry fruit with balancing tannins and round freshness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied. Decant 30 minutes for the fruit to open up. Tiansai proprietor CHEN Lizhong had graduated from Beijing’s prestigious Renmin University Law School. She then worked as a judge. In 1992, she resigned her post and started Beijing Shihe Auto Company which is involved in transportation (and which she still owns). In 2010, Chen founded Tiansai Winery in Xinjiang on the western frontier of China. Her consultant is LI Demei, the most knowledgeable person on marselan in China. The lecturer and consultant winemaker – a graduate of ENITA de Bordeaux and who worked at Chateau Palmer for nine months in 2001 – first planted the variety in China in 2002. Marselan is a hybrid developed from cabernet sauvignon and grenache in the south of France in 1961 by the late Paul Truel.
