Yumi Tanabe, founder of SAKURA Japan Women’s Wine Awards. With over 40 years in the industry, Tanabe is one of the most influential figures in wine in Japan and Japanese wine. She is a writer, educator, and importer. In 1992, Tanabe founded Yumi Tanabe’s Wine School where many sommeliers have studied. More than 10,000 students have graduated from her school
Founded by Yumi Tanabe in 2014, SAKURA Japan Women’s Wine Awards (SAKURA JWWA) is the first international wine competition judged solely by women. The judging panels include sommeliers, winemakers, educators, journalists, F&B management, wine buyers and distributors.
The registration period for entries to the 12th SAKURA Japan Women’s Wine Awards 2025 will start 1 October to 30 November 2024.
In view of the growing trend of low alcohol and non-alcoholic wines, two new categories will be introduced to the 12th edition:
- Low Alcohol Wine (New!)
- Non-alcoholic Wine (New!)
- Still Red Wine
- Still White Wine
- Still Rosé Wine
- Sparkling & Semi Sparkling Wine
- Sweet Wine
- Fortified Wine
- Orange Wine
Wineries can enjoy a 5% Early Bird Discount if participation is confirmed and paid via credit card by 2359 hrs (Japan Time) Wednesday 30 October 2024.
Judging will be Tuesday 28 January in Tokyo and Tuesday 4 February in Osaka.
The results will be announced on www.sakuraaward.com Thursday 27 February 2025.
