Lafite 2004 and Margaux 2006

Late February 2020 – when it was still possible to return from France and Italy without serving quarantine in Singapore – I visited Chateau Margaux and Lafite one and the next day.

I was leading my first public tour to Bordeaux.

Capped at 8 participants – together with our Business & Marketing Manager Ms YU Kayan from Hong Kong – we were 10 of us.

During such visits, the two First Growths offer for tasting, a vintage they consider ready to be enjoyed.

In doing so, they give us a clue what can be served now of a relatively young wine.

They are wines that are in their secondary evolution.

Chateau Margaux 2006 and Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2004 have actually also slipped into the tertiary plane of their maturation.

The fragrance of sandalwood has hints of aged tobacco and young leather. A whiff of forest floor, autumn leaves, evolved red/blue fruit, and silky tannins. Eminently yummy!!

Both wines need decanting 60 to 90 minutes.
