Chinese Wine Soars!

From now till 31 May 2024, Cathay Pacific’s first and business class passengers will be able to enjoy four Chinese wines – Domaine de Long Dai, Silver Heights, Grace Vineyard and Xige Estate – on all long haul and ultra long haul flights.

This is part of Cathay Pacific’s “Discovery Wine Series” programme. Launched in 2020, it introduces wines under interesting themes, for example, “Women in Wine” featuring labels by female winemakers.

To select the four Chinese wines, a panel consisting Debra Meiburg MW, Roy Moorfield and Wine, Spirits and Beverages Manager Ronald Khoo tasted a total of 40 Chinese wines.

FIRST CLASS

Domaine De Long Dai 2020 • Shandong
Situated in Qiu Shan Valley, Domaine de Long Dai is owned by DBR or Domaines Barons de Rothschild, the same who own Pauillac First Growth Chateau Lafite Rothschild. The 360 terraces of the 30 hectares are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan, Cabernet Franc and a few plots of Syrah. The first vines were planted in 2011. In 2019, Petit Verdot was introduced.

Silver Heights Jiayuan Marselan 2021 • Ningxia
Founded in 2007 by GAO Lin and daughter Emma, a Bordeaux-trained winemaker, Silver Heights vineyard is fully biodynamic. The winery is located on the eastern slopes of Helan Mountains, one of the highest vineyards in China with an altitude of 1,200 metres.

Grace Vineyard Tasya’s Reserve Cabernet Franc 2018 • Ningxia
In 1997, with the assistance of French Bordeaux wine scholar Dr. Denis Boubals, CHAN Chun Keun and Sylvain Janvier founded Grace Vineyard. In 2002, Chan handed over the winery to his daughter Judy. Under Judy’s leadership, Grace Wine Holdings Limited went public in Hong Kong, completing the transformation from a family enterprise to a public listed company in 2018.

Xige Estate Jade Dove Single Vineyard Cabernet Gernischt 2019 • Ningxia
Xige Estate was founded in 2017 by ZHANG Yan Zhi, a Bordeaux L’Ecole du Vin-trained winemaker. The wines of Xige Estate caught international attention when President XI Jinping served their Cabernet Sauvignon Gernischt at a state dinner when French President Emmanuel Macron visited China in April 2023.
