Erath Estate Selection Pinot Noir 2013

After completing a course at the University of California in Davis the year before, Dick Erath planted the first vines in the Dundee Hills of Oregon in 1969.  He produced his first commercial release of 216 cases in 1972. The aim has always been to follow the rhythm of the land and Nature. Gary Horner, today’s winemaker at Erath, is a worthy custodian of that philosophy. His goal is to “reveal classic Oregon pinot: light, delicate and fruit-forward”. Thank goodness for that because you will never find a Napa Valley winegrower wanting to produce “light” wine. Fully evolved, this Oregon pinot is soft ruby/tawny-ish in colour and has the unmistakable aroma of autumn leaves. And whiffs of red fruit including raspberries. Medium-bodied, the freshness is delicious. Aged 13 months in French oak, 40% of which was new.

Enjoyable on its own, this delicate red is also delicious with mushroom, lamb, duck and Cantonese roast goose.
