DRC Romanee-Conti 1990

WELCOME TO EDITION 760 of GRAPEVINE

Back in 1993, a friend called – on a land line, not mobile, phone – to ask if he should accept an offer he had received from the distributor of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti.

I am not sure if the same technique is used to sell the wines but the offer was a mixed lot of 12 bottles of the 1990 vintage from the domaine.

The bait was a bottle of Romanee-Conti and then 11 others spread between La Tache, Richebourg, Romanee-Saint-Vivant, Grands Echezeaux and Echezeaux.

I informed the friend that 1990 is an outstanding vintage and he ordered the case of 12 bottles for S$2,000.
