Verona is one of the world’s most engaging cities. The old part of this Italian gem is the best. There’s the arena Roman amphitheatre built in 30 AD with a capacity of 15,000; associations with Romeo & Juilet; and, rich traditions of cuisine and wine. The grape is a dominant aspect of Veronese life not least because the annual Vinitaly is held here every April. On a more modest scale and opened just five months ago, La Cuvée specializes in champagne but also has wines including – naturally – Valpolicella and Amarone. Owners Mara Vicentini and Stefania Zanchettin are friendly, helpful and generous. A while ago, I had a slice of delicious panettone which they so kindly gifted last Friday. Ciao Mara and Stefania!!
