A Champagne Great

Back to Back 2008 • 24 July 2019

There is now universal consensus among winegrowers and wine writers that 2008 is one of the greatest vintages of Champagne. On Wednesday 24 July 2019, you will have a chance to enjoy two of the most acclaimed champagnes of this already exceptional vintage in Singapore.

Laurent-Perrier 2008 & Dom Perignon 2008

Be among the very first wine lovers in Singapore to taste Champagne Laurent-Perrier 2008. The wine will only just be released around that time.

Incredibly, both Laurent-Perrier and Dom Perignon 2008 are comprised exactly of 50% chardonnay and 50% pinot noir.

Only Grand Cru fruit finds its way into the two wines.

In the case of Laurent-Perrier, the chardonnay is from Chouilly, Cramant, Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger from the Cotes des Blancs and the pinot noir  from Ay, Verzy, Verzenay, Tours-sur-Marne and Bouzy from the Montagne de Reims.

As for Dom Perignon 2008, the vintage was launched on the slopes of the vineyards of Hautvillers Abbey – the same where the original Father or Dom Perignon (December 1639 – 14 September 1715) worked –  in June 2018. The occasion was also to announce the retirement of Chef de Cave Richard Geoffory and the new Cellarmaster Vincent Chaperon from 1 January 2019.

Geoffroy describes Dom Perignon 2008 as:

‘A miracle vintage. Just when the harvest was getting underway, the weather conditions were finally perfect: blue skies and prolonged north-northeasterly winds. The grapes were riper than anyone dared hope, and had truly outstanding balance. The vines were in perfect health. To the bracing acidity, concision and aromatic purity expected of the 2008 vintage, Dom Pérignon adds depth, density and complexity. The light is warmer and less harsh. Dom Perignon liberates the 2008 vintage, freeing it from an over-literal interpretation of the canons of Champagne.’
