Clos Cantenac 2018

Clos Cantenac is an hour’s drive from 1855 Second Growth Chateau Brane Cantenac in Margaux. Therein lies the distance and geography between the association all but in name. The St-Emilion Grand Cru is about five hectares of vineyard. A bounty of deep blue/black fruit – berries, cherries and currants – is jealously guarded by ripe, rich tannins. The sweetness of fruit is not allowed to have its say entirely. It is contoured by ripe capsicums, a hint of mint, and a little – but entirely delicious – salivating sappiness. Tension demands an audience! Clos Cantenac may be a St-Emilion but  the pure Merlot possesses a luscious, succulent indulgence that reminds so very much of Pomerol.
