Whisky of the Week • GlenDronach Parliament Aged 21 Years

Established nearly 200 years ago in 1826, it was not until 1968 that GlenDronach appeared as a Single Malt. From then on, the brand has grown from (cask) strength to strength. Bottled at 48% alcohol, Glendronach Parliament was matured in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks for a minimum of 21 years. Non-chill filtered, the colour is also natural (no help from caramel). “Parliament” here refers not to a political body but rather birds, rooks to be precise because the collective noun for them is parliament. This is because rooks are known to gather in fields and appear to be listening while one of their kind is “speechmaking”. At GlenDronach, rooks that nest in their warehouses. Obviously, the birds have good taste. Parliament Aged 21 Years is Pu-erh tea/bronze gold in colour. It is rich, fruity, sweet, spiced, with a hint of forest floor. GlenDronach is distributed in Singapore by Malt & Wine Asia and can be purchased directly from their website at www.maltwineasia.com.
