Disciples of Escoffier • Mas de Daumas Gassac Tasting

Basile Guibert regaled participants with the story how his parents came to purchase Mas de Daumas Gassac in 1974

Basile Guibert, whose family are owners of Mas de Daumas Gassac, gave a tasting to the Disciples of Escoffier Singapore Chapter.

Guibert regaled participants with the story how his parents purchased the estate in the commune of Aniane in 1974. Unusually at the time, Aime Guibert pioneered the planting of Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot on his estate in the Languedoc.

The results were spectacular.

So much so that the Times of London described the wine as tasting like Chateau Latour. The French gastronomy guide Gault Millau was equally impressed and called Mas de Daumas Gassac the “Lafite Rothschild of the Languedoc”.

The wines are certainly long-lived as Basile Guibert showed two reds 30 years apart. The 22-year old white was just as impressive.
