“My definition of a good wine is one that can make a wonderful marriage with the food. A good wine does not have to be expensive.” Jacky LUK Chi Man, Chief Sommelier of Forum Restaurant 1977
Forum Restaurant 1977 is founded 45 years ago by YEUNG Koon Yat, better known as Ah Yat or “Number One”, the undisputed “Abalone King” of Chinese cuisine.
The restaurant is a Top 10 Chinese Restaurant of the World 2019 & 2020 and a Michelin 3-star restaurant.
In Hong Kong, instead of referring to Forum Restaurant 1977, most people and taxi drivers know the establishment simply as “Ah Yat Abalone”.
Ah Yat, it would seem, is not only “Number One” for abalone.
Their wine list has a wonderful selection of Champagne and Bordeaux. With prices so reasonable they would shame many restaurants in 5-star hotels.
Chief Sommelier Jacky LUK Chi Man is responsible for the list and had judged at Decanter Asia Wine Awards 2019 held in Hong Kong.
He is experienced in catering services and has completed Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level III and has qualification from Sake Service Institute (SSI). Luk is also an Advanced Sommelier at the Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS).
“My definition of a good wine is one that can make a wonderful marriage with the food. A good wine does not have to be expensive. My duty is to know wines from around the world, understand the grapes, terroir, and winemaking, deep enough to be able to recommend and enhance customers’ dining experience.” informed Jacky Luk .
Forum Restaurant 1977 also serves outstanding dim sum for lunch. Apart from abalone, the other Cantonese dishes are also outstanding
