Welcome to EDITION 718 of GRAPEVINE
Nothing is sacred anymore.
My country has been “sold” to Disneyland.
Their branded name is all over the Christmas light-up festooned along Orchard Road, Singapore’s most popular shopping stretch.
Why Disney. Why not Marvel. Or Hello Kitty?
Probably because the highest bidder wins!
Who made this incredible decision to monetize the public roads of Singapore to this vulgar extent?
How does the bidding work. How much is at stake. What else is for sale?
What if, next year, during another religious holiday, a company controlled by Saudi Arabia wins the bid to light up Singapore. Or North Korea. Zimbabwe?
Wishing you A Very Good Weekend.
