Spain’s Greatest Architect

Welcome to EDITION 738 of GRAPEVINE

The most beautiful building in the world was 115 years ahead of its time.

The Batllo Family was not happy with the original design and asked Spain’s foremost architect Antoni Gaudi in 1904 to visit his imagination on their home.

Home to a wealthy family, Casa Batllo was 115 years ahead of its time.

There is hardly a straight line or right angle in the Barcelona building.

Antoni Gaudi (25 June 1852 – 10 June 1926)  is regarded as the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism. A visionary, there is hardly a straight line or right-angle in Casa Batllo.

Such is the genius of Gaudi that even today, his designs look futuristic. They are one-of-a-kind. Like no other before. Or hereafter.

The Catalans – already very proud and individualistic people – are themselves very proud of their favourite son.

Barcelona is the only city in the world where mention of its name is done in the same breath as that of Gaudi.

No other architect or artist has a greater hold on the mentality and soul of a city.

Wishing you A Very Good Weekend.
