Scala Dei Pla dels Angels 2017

Priorat – in north-east Spain – is particularly famous for its reds, especially those produced from grenache. Grenache noir also happens to be a component grape for top rosés from Provence in France. So, it’s no surprise that Scala Dei Pla des Angels 2017 is so convincingly good. Bright, light pink. Delicate white peach, young wild strawberries, and citrussy notes. Elegantly fruity and with freshness. Scala Dei or “Ladder to God” is one of Priorat’s hidden gems. It has vineyards at 450 to 600 to 800 metres above sea level. With soils ranging from slate to red clay to limestone. Winemaker Ricard Rofes, from Priorat, is producing exemplary wines of balance, poise, and intensity. The Catalan’s first vintage at Scala Dei was 2007.
