New Restrictions in Bordeaux

The French Prime Minister Jean Castex said last Friday 11 September 2020 that the Covid crisis was “worsening’ in France.

The next day, Saturday, the country reported 10,561 cases in 24 hours, the highest since large-scale testing began in France a week before that. The death toll in the country is approaching 31,000.

Bordeaux (and Marseilles and Paris) is now emerging as a Covid hotspot.

New restrictions have come into effect even as the wine capital of the world brings in the 2020 harvest.

Family and group gatherings  – including in parks – in Bordeaux will now be limited to 10 people.

Only two people will be allowed to visit per resident at retirement homes

Customers can no longer stand at bars.

The maximum number of people allowed to watch sport matches and other large events will now be limited to 1,000 (instead of 5,000).

Companies are being urged to have employees work from home.

This, of course, will be impossible for harvesters and winemaking teams at chateaux bringing in the 2020 vintage.

Fortunately, they can return to their “offices” to continue their work.
