Catena Paraje Altamira Malbec 2016

Nicolas Catena Zapata is justly credited with being at the forefront of Argentinian wine, ressurrecting the fortunes of malbec. He gave a new lease of life to a south-west France variety now more associated with South America than its original home country. Paraje Altamira is comprised of high altitude vineyards – up to 1,500 metres – which exposure to sun and light is tempered by cool nights that help preserve freshness, intensity, building up layers of flavours. Floral notes with ripe cherry/plum fruit; a sliver of liquorice; and, juicy supple tannins. Oak ageing is only 12 months in 85% French and 15% American oak. New wood makes up 35%.
